Mission

To Inspire a Passion for Life-long Healthy Living

PHYSICAL EDUCATION (PE)

The PE programme in Fuchun Primary School aims to develop our pupils in the Cognitive, Psychomotor and Affective domains. Pupils are given ample opportunities to learn fundamental movement at the lower primary level. At the upper primary level they are then taught more detailed techniques and strategies of games. Pupils' participation and enjoyment in a wide variety of activities ensure the holistic development of the pupils and encourage life-long healthy living.

The following learning areas are covered in our PE curriculum, based on the new PE Syllabus (2014):

    • Athletics (from Primary 3)
    • Dance
    • Games and Sports
    • Gymnastics
    • Outdoor Education
    • Physical Health and Fitness (formerly Health Education)

Goals of PE:

Goal 1:

Acquire a range of movement skills to participate in a variety of physical activities.

Goal 2:

Understand and apply movement concepts, principles and strategies in a range of physical activities.

Goal 3:

Demonstrate safe practices during physical and daily activities with respect to themselves, others and the environment.

Goal 4:

Display positive personal and social behaviour across different experiences.

Goal 5:

Acquire and maintain health-enhancing fitness through regular participation in physical activities.

Goal 6:

Enjoy and value the benefits of living a physically active and healthy life.

Sports Education Programme

The Sports Education Programme (SEP) is a collaborative partnership between Sport Singapore and the Ministry of Education (MOE). The school embarked on the SEP from 2009 and aims to increase pupils’ interest and participation in physical activities through the promotion of a variety of sporting activities. In 2019, the SEP will be offered to P2 and P3 pupils.

Fuchun Health Week

To promote the benefits of healthy living and the importance of exercise, Fuchun Health Week was held in term 1 week 6, prior to Fuchun Play Day. School staff and students were encouraged to compete in an inter-class skipping competition during the recesses. The participation was overwhelming and everybody had tremendous fun skipping!

Fuchun Health Week 2

The second instalment of the Fuchun Health Week this year was held from 29 July to 2 August. In this round, more exciting games were prepared for the students and their teachers. They were challenged through the games which tested their underhand throw techniques, coordination skills and knowledge on food nutrition. It was a week of fun and learning how we can all stay fit and healthy in our daily lives!

Fuchun Play Day

Our annual Fuchun Play Day was held on 15 February this year. Same as in previous years, the upper primary students in Primary 4, 5 and 6 participated in a sports tournament, an orienteering activity and relay games designed to teach them to teamwork. This year, the primary 3 students also joined in the games during the event. They competed against one another in inter-class relay games that they had practised during their PE lessons prior to the Play Day.

P5 Adventure Camp 2019

Our Primary 5 students had their P5 Adventure Camp at the MOE Changi Coast Outdoor Adventure Learning Centre this year, a first for our school. The camp, lasting for 3 days 2 nights instead of 2 days 1 night as in previous years, provided more time for campers to fully experience the facilities and activities available at the campsite.  The camp objectives were for the students to learn more about themselves, their peers and their surroundings, and develop their Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) competencies.

Throughout the camp, participants were engaged in the challenging and meaningful activities, such as Abseiling, Artificial Caving, Coastal Expedition, High Elements and Zipline (Flying Fox). The P5 students learnt about the importance of teamwork and how to overcome their fears.
